Why choose me to edit your writing?
You’ve done the hard work and brought your story to life. You’re about to take things to the next stage and send your words out into the world. This is where an editor can step in, to help ensure your manuscript is the best it can be.
As an editor, who is also an award-winning writer and qualified teacher, I understand both the editorial process and how much your work means to you.
- Beta reading (also known as a developmental edit)
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Help with formatting your manuscript correctly
- Sensitivity reading
I am happy to work on texts of any length, with experience working on short stories, essays, novellas, and novels. I prefer texts in British English and Australian English. For English texts, I refer to the Chicago Style Manual.
You can read more about the different types of editing I do here.
My preferred genres are:
- Speculative Fiction, particularly quiet Horror/Gothic Horror
- Creative nonfiction
- Speculative memoir
- Scholarly texts focusing on Horror/Science-Fiction
- Narrative poetry (particularly with darker themes)
This is not an exhaustive list. Please contact me if you have work outside of these genres to see if I can help. I promise to be fully honest with you if I don’t think your writing and my editing style are compatible.
Any queries should be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Edit Request.
In the body of your email, please include information regarding the genre, word count, and preferred currency for payment. In most cases, I ask for a 500-word sample so we can ensure we are both happy to proceed, but please email me to discuss your needs.
